Jamaican Food at Kishikishi

November 21, 2011

Kishi Kishi Lunch Cafe is an oasis out in the kunuku not far from windy Lac Bay. Dianne and Georgie have hired an amazing staff to create some lovely healthy menus. I was at Kishi Kishi twice this past summer and had lovely Jamaican fare. Before or after, stop in the lovely butterfly farm. It is a tranquil setting perfect to enjoy nature.

Jamaican Sunday BBQ at Kishikishi

August 15, 2011

Dianne and Georgie have created a lovely Sunday experience at their Caribbean inspired restaurant, Kishikishi. Located at the Butterfly Farm on Kaminda Lac they offer a Sunday Jamaican BBQ for 12.50 USD. I enjoyed their BBQ yesterday on a sunny Bonaire afternoon.

Jerk Chicken Delight

Robert Bryan, a creative Jamaican chef spun out a delicious meal complete with Jamaican inspired recipes including the expected and quite delicious, jerk chicken. His rice and peas as as good as my mother in laws. I loved the veggies and the plantains. I washed this down with an lovely awe di lumunchi (homemade lemonade). Before gratuity my total was 16.00.

I also had lunch at Kishikishi last week. The local goat cheese spring rolls were divine. My dining companion loved his sampler with fish, a veggie tart and other delicious treats. Lunch was relaxed and tranquil in this lovely breezy cafe.

Washington Park Update

August 11, 2011

Blowing Hole

3 weeks ago I took the short route with a friend into the park ending at Slaagbai. This past weekend my visiting boyfriend and I took the long route to Playa Chikitu, Kokolishi and all around. It was simply breathtaking. The entire trip with many stops took 5 hours. I recommend the long route very much.

Check out the website for more details.

For now enjoy photos of a lovely day. If you go have a truck or jeep with high clearance and food and water.

The Butterfly Farm in Bonaire

July 30, 2011

I recently was warmly welcomed by Dianne and Georgie, the caretakers of the butterflies at Bonaire’s Butterfly Farm. This serene sanctuary houses lovely butterflies from Costa Rica. It is a magical setting with an inviting and calming atmosphere. I felt utter peace and became very mindful in this setting.

There is a lovely cafe onsite called Kishikishi with healthy and delicious foods. The menu is creative and inspiring. Enjoy pumpking soups, local Bonaire goat cheese dishes and other delights.

Just follow the road from the church in Kralendijk to Sorobon (Kaya Nikiboko Zuid) After leaving Kralendijk you will see the sign on the left. Turn to the left in the direction of Lac Cai and you will see the signs to the garden.
The farm is open from Tuesday till Sunday. Opening hours are from 9 am till 5 pm.

Washington Park - Bonaire

July 18, 2011

Wayaka II

Washington Park is a nature sanctuary located on the northern third of the island. It is over 5000 hectares with hills, sand dunes, mangroves, salinas and lovely beaches. The snorkeling is amazing and there is hiking and mountain biking.

My windsurf buddy Tedrow and I headed up late in the day. It was a lovely drive to Slaagbai for a swim. Sundays is quite busy so I personally recommend another day. Several routes are closed presently so the one way route is now two ways. Aside from this minor inconvenience the views and vistas are breathtaking.

For the bird lover, the park is a dream. I saw amazing Trupial nests all over and lovely water fowl in the salt flats at Slaagabai.

I suggest arriving early and bringing plenty of water, food and sunscreen. It’s pretty hot this time of year in the park but it’s an amazing trip for the nature lover. My favorite snorkeling spot is Wayaka II and to swim, Slaagbai.

Enjoy

Love the Donkeys

February 27, 2011

It’s ok to take a day off from sailing or diving and head inland a bit. Head over to the Donkey Sanctuary for a few hours. The lovely animals will pull at your heart strings and leave you feeling good. Pack up at least 5 loaves of bread (Cultimara has day old bread for sale in the back) and some bags of apples or carrots and head to the Donkey Sanctuary!

They do good for the local donkeys that otherwise would be hit by cars or suffer during our sometimes drought. Kids and adults enjoy being at this habitat. Bring lots of bread..trust me, it will be most welcome.

Check out http://www.donkeysanctuary.org/ for more information. You can even adopt a donkey. Many of my clients have already!
