Fresh Fish on Bonaire
February 16, 2012When my guests are planning their trip one of the top requests for information is where to buy local fish to prepare in their villa or condo. There is nothing like fresh Caribbean fish. Most menus on island feature Wahoo and Dradu. Dradu if I am not mistaken is Mahi Mahi. I prefer it to Wahoo which can be firmer in texture.
Some of my favorite places to buy fish are as follows:
Doei Diaz
J.A Abraham Boulevard
next to Richard’s Restaurant
Doei is the Dad to windsurf guru Elvis Martinus. Head over around 3 PM and ask for fresh fish. It’s usually sold in bags with steaks vs filets. The building is pink.
Luis Wijman (also known as Junie)
Kaya Gutu, Antriol
Turn left on the paved road, Kaya Karpitan, just south of Progresso Supermarket in Antriol. Turn right on the second road on your right, Kaya Purunchi. Then take the second left, Kaya Gutu, it’s the second house on the left hand side of the road.
Nilo and Luvia Josephia
Kaminda Lac (the winding road to Sorobon)
The second to last house on the right on the road to Lac Bay/Sorobon. If you come to the ballfield you went too far so go back. The house is brown and there is a sign “aki ta bende piska”. The blackboard and open gate indicate when they have fish.
Fish Marinade Recipe
fresh lime juice
fresh thyme
Garlic minced
EVOO
Pelican Reef Bonaire on Sale March 3-11 -15% Discount
February 10, 2012Pelican Reef is on sale for the weeks of March 3-11. Due to a cancellation I can offer a 15% discount on this superb beachfront bungalow.
Pelican Reef is a real beach house, ideally located on the fringes of Playa Lechi on the water’s edge The center of Kralendijk, Bonaire’s main village, is a short15 minute walk away, as are most of the activities as well as the main restaurants.
The house itself, lovingly tucked away in lush tropical greenery, would be best described as casual and intimate. The interior is comfortable and simple: island style with colonial accents and an occasional splash of Caribbean color.
Being a private residence, the house is equipped with all amenities and comfort you could wish for during your stay:
There are two bedrooms, both have twin beds. The bedrooms are equipped with A/C and ceiling fans. White 100% cotton bed linen, cozy throws, and cushions. The rooms have screens, but additional mosquito nets are also available should they be needed.
The comfortable bathroom has a large step-in shower. In the cupboard you will find plenty of white towels for indoor use and colorful beach towels for outdoors. There is also an outdoor shower.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking stove, microwave, large fridge and freezer, coffee-maker, blender, toaster, and all necessary glassware, dishes, cutlery, cooking and frying pans. Picnic equipment and coolers are also available.
Outside you will find our barbeque, feel free to use it! Furthermore there are quite some lanterns to turn our beach area into a real fairy-tale decor.
Pelican Reef is all about easy outdoor living: a constant airy breeze provides the perfect temperature. The spacious porch offers plenty of shade, there is a nice sundeck with loungers, deck chairs, and a hammock. Our swim dock allows you to slip straight into the turquoise Caribbean Sea!
But the main feature is without any doubt the peace and quiet this house has to offer… with your own private beach to enjoy fantastic sunsets and starry moonlit skies.
And for those guests who have difficulty detaching from the “real” world, there is TV and DVD, stereo, a cell phone at your disposal (calls to be paid), wireless Internet access, a growing library with books, magazines, DVD and board games. Kindly email ann@bonairecaribbean.com for details.
Restaurant of the Month – Bistro De Paris
February 7, 2012Patrice Rannou has been serving fine French cuisine for 7 years now. Some of my special clients and friends were treated to a multi course private tasting menu. Enjoy some photos courtesy of Timmmy Bonaire, my guest photographer. Patrice is a true gentlemen providing one of Bonaire’s finest dining experiences. My clients love Bistro de Paris. Of course I am a fan mostly for his desserts. The tarte tartin is ambrosial.
Bistro de Paris is moving soon so watch for news and updates. For updates call 011 599 717 7070 or let the your Concierge at Caribbean Wind & Sun Vacations book your dining experience.
